How Punya Kaarya collects, uses, stores, and protects information through the Lung Sakhi mobile application.

Effective 25 August 2026 · Last updated 25 August 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Punya Kaarya (“Punya Kaarya”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, stores, and protects information through the Lung Sakhi mobile application (“App”).

Website: Punyakaarya.org

Lung Sakhi is a social-service application developed by Punya Kaarya to support community-based lung and respiratory health screening activities carried out by authorized ASHA workers and field personnel.

The App is intended exclusively for authorized ASHA workers and other personnel registered by Punya Kaarya. It is not an application for general public registration.

There are no payments, purchases, subscriptions, or commercial transactions through the App.

1. Purpose of Lung Sakhi

Lung Sakhi supports Punya Kaarya’s community healthcare activities in rural and underserved areas.

Authorized ASHA workers may use the App to:

  • Visit children and families in the field.
  • Conduct basic lung and respiratory health screening.
  • Record relevant demographic and health information.
  • Identify children who may require additional medical attention.
  • Provide appropriate guidance as part of the program.
  • Refer children requiring further medical attention to affiliated government hospitals or other appropriate healthcare facilities.
  • Maintain records of field screening activities.
  • Support follow-up and coordination of healthcare assistance.

Lung Sakhi is a screening and field-support tool. It does not replace a qualified doctor, hospital, emergency medical service, or professional medical diagnosis.

2. Who Can Use the App

Lung Sakhi is restricted to authorized ASHA workers and other personnel approved by Punya Kaarya.

Users cannot independently create an account through the App.

An ASHA worker must have a phone number that has already been registered and authorized by a Punya Kaarya administrator.

Authentication through the App is therefore restricted to authorized users.

3. Information We Collect

Child and beneficiary information may include: name; age; date of birth; gender; parent or guardian name; parent or guardian contact information; address; village/locality; and other demographic information necessary for the program.

The App does not intentionally collect Aadhaar card numbers or Aadhaar card information.

Health information may include symptoms, respiratory or lung-related observations, medical history provided during screening, existing health conditions or diagnoses where relevant, basic health measurements, screening observations, screening results, risk indicators, referral information, follow-up information, and other information necessary to assess whether a child may require further medical attention.

Health information is treated as sensitive information and is used only for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy.

4. Location Information

Lung Sakhi may request access to the device’s location/GPS information to support field activities.

Location information may be used to record the approximate location of field visits, help Punya Kaarya monitor field activities, associate a screening activity with the relevant geographic area, and support coordination of field healthcare activities.

Location collection is not mandatory in all circumstances. Where internet connectivity or other technical conditions prevent location information from being obtained, the field worker may continue using the App where the functionality permits.

Lung Sakhi does not use location information for advertising or commercial tracking.

5. Photographs and Camera

Lung Sakhi does not require or collect photographs of children as part of its current screening process.

The App therefore does not use children’s photographs for advertising, profiling, or other unrelated purposes.

6. Children’s Information

Lung Sakhi is used by authorized ASHA workers to conduct healthcare-related screening of children, including infants and young children.

Because the App may process information relating to minors, Punya Kaarya takes additional care to limit the collection and use of such information to legitimate healthcare and social-service purposes.

Information about children may be used to conduct health screening, identify potential health concerns, provide appropriate guidance, facilitate referral to affiliated government hospitals, support follow-up, and coordinate assistance through Punya Kaarya.

Children’s information is not used for advertising, commercial profiling, sale of personal information, or unrelated commercial purposes.

Where consent, authorization, or other safeguards are required by applicable law or Punya Kaarya’s operational procedures, the organization will follow those requirements.

7. How We Use Information

Information collected through Lung Sakhi may be used to:

  • Conduct community health screening.
  • Maintain records of screening activities.
  • Identify children who may require further medical evaluation.
  • Support referrals to affiliated government hospitals.
  • Provide appropriate guidance through authorized field workers.
  • Support follow-up activities.
  • Coordinate assistance through Punya Kaarya.
  • Monitor and evaluate the NGO’s social-service programs.
  • Generate internal operational and statistical reports.
  • Maintain the security and functionality of the App.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems.
  • Comply with applicable legal requirements.

Punya Kaarya does not sell children’s information, health information, or personal information.

Punya Kaarya does not use health information for advertising or targeted advertising.

8. Sharing of Information

Information may be accessed or shared only where reasonably necessary to carry out the purposes of the Lung Sakhi program.

This may include sharing relevant information with authorized Punya Kaarya personnel, authorized ASHA workers or supervisors, affiliated government hospitals, appropriate healthcare personnel involved in a referral, technology/service providers required to operate the App, and government authorities where disclosure is required by law.

Only information reasonably necessary for the relevant purpose should be shared.

Punya Kaarya does not sell or rent personal information to third parties.

9. Hospital Referrals

If screening indicates that a child may require additional medical attention, the ASHA worker may refer the child to an appropriate affiliated government hospital.

Relevant information collected through the App may be used to support that referral and enable appropriate healthcare assistance.

Lung Sakhi does not itself provide a definitive medical diagnosis.

The screening information recorded through the App should not be interpreted as a substitute for examination or diagnosis by a qualified medical professional.

10. Emergency Situations

Lung Sakhi may be used by ASHA workers to identify cases that appear to require urgent attention and to facilitate appropriate guidance or referral.

The App does not provide emergency medical services and does not replace local emergency services.

In an immediate medical emergency, the appropriate emergency medical service or healthcare facility should be contacted directly.

11. Data Storage

Information collected through Lung Sakhi is stored on servers operated through Hostinger and is used to support Punya Kaarya’s Lung Sakhi program.

Punya Kaarya takes reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect stored information against unauthorized access, misuse, alteration, disclosure, loss, or destruction.

12. Third-Party Services

Lung Sakhi uses mapping/location services to support geographic and field-related functionality.

These services may process technical or location-related information as necessary to provide mapping functionality.

Third-party services are subject to their respective terms and privacy policies.

Punya Kaarya does not use third-party mapping services to sell or advertise based on children’s health information.

13. Account and Access Security

Access to Lung Sakhi is restricted to authorized personnel.

ASHA workers log in using a phone number that must already be registered by a Punya Kaarya administrator.

Users are responsible for keeping their access credentials and devices secure and must not allow unauthorized persons to use their account.

Punya Kaarya may disable or remove access where a user is no longer authorized to use the App.

14. Data Retention

Punya Kaarya retains information for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the Lung Sakhi program, maintain healthcare screening records, support referrals and follow-up, conduct program monitoring and evaluation, meet legal, regulatory, audit, or organizational requirements, and maintain appropriate historical records of social-service activities.

When information is no longer required, Punya Kaarya may securely delete, anonymize, or otherwise dispose of it in accordance with applicable requirements and its data-retention practices.

15. Data Deletion

Because Lung Sakhi is an authorized field-worker application and not a general public consumer application, users cannot currently delete their accounts directly through the App.

Account deactivation or deletion is managed by the Punya Kaarya administrator.

A user or an authorized parent/guardian may contact Punya Kaarya regarding personal information and request access to applicable information, correction of inaccurate information, deletion of information where legally and operationally appropriate, or information regarding how their data is being handled.

Certain information may need to be retained where required for healthcare, safeguarding, legal, regulatory, audit, or legitimate program purposes.

Privacy / data deletion contact: punyakaaryafoundation@gmail.com

16. Data Security

Punya Kaarya takes reasonable measures to protect information processed through Lung Sakhi.

These measures may include user authentication, administrator-controlled access, role-based access controls, secure transmission of information, secure server infrastructure, access restrictions, and monitoring and operational controls.

However, no internet transmission or electronic storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

17. No Advertising or Commercial Use

Lung Sakhi is a social-service application operated by Punya Kaarya.

The App does not sell products or services, process payments, offer paid subscriptions, sell personal information, sell children’s information, sell health information, use children’s health information for advertising, or use health information for targeted advertising.

The information collected through Lung Sakhi is intended to support Punya Kaarya’s community healthcare and social-service activities.

18. Changes to This Privacy Policy

Punya Kaarya may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to Lung Sakhi’s functionality, data collection or processing practices, applicable laws or regulations, security practices, or Punya Kaarya’s social-service programs.

The updated Privacy Policy will be published on the relevant website and/or made available through the App.

The Last Updated date will be changed whenever material updates are made.
